Bath VAMC Honors the Recently Deceased

January 9, 2015 Joe Fox

Following the passing of every Veteran in the Bath VAMC Community Living Center, the flag blanket is placed over the deceased and they are escorted to the morgue. Following this process, the flag blanket is given to the family if they would like to have it. A smaller flag is placed on the decedent's bed as a sign that the patient has passed. The flag is typically left on the bed for 24 hours following the death and a ribbon is placed across the doorway as a sign of respect. Staff, patients, and volunteers know this room is temporarily off limits. These blankets are generously provided by volunteers and service organizations.
