UVS volunteer Laura Balun provides a chair massage during a Memorial Day event

Massage, whether in a chair or on a table has many benefits! Reducing anxiety, increase circulation, relaxation and many more. Massages, as with many volunteer activities, give the Veteran an outlet to open up and share issues that may be on his/her mind.

Providing massage for Veterans is an honor and a privilege says Laura Balun, United Vetetans Services (UVS) Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) Representative for DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DCVAMC). The photo shows her providing a chair massage during a Memorial Day event. She provides the service for other special events, as well as for the Integrative Health and Wellness (IHW) Program at the DCVAMC. DCVAMC currently has two regularly scheduled volunteers to provide massages for Veterans
